Watervliet – Frances M. Zawistowski, 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC with her loving family by her side. Born at St. Mary’s Hosptial in Troy, she is the daughter of the late Edmund and Elizabeth (Sheridan) Kusky.

Fran graduated from Sacred Heart School in Watervliet, Watervliet High School, and St. Margaret’s House of Babies as a CCT. She was a lifelong Watervliet resident and loved the community she called home.

Fran married the love of her life, Robert F. Zawistowski on May 23, 1975, and spent the early years of their marriage raising their three children, Amy, Lee, and Rob. She held numerous jobs before working for New York State where she retired in 2019.

The other loves of her life were her children and grandchildren whom she lovingly called “Her babies.” Fran also enjoyed time with her friends whether locally or traveling. She especially loved being near water. She spent many summers at Cossayuna Lake, NY; Wildwood, NJ; Salisbury Beach, MA; Camp Hidley on Schroon River in Chestertown, NY; and most recently enjoyed part of her winters with Bob in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Fran is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert “Bob” F. Zawistowski; her children, Amy Zawistowski, Lee (Bob) McMahon and Robert (Jennifer) O’Zavis; her sisters, Ellen (Mike O’Connell) Mayo and Jean Rocque; her granddaughters, Kiley McMahon, Aubrey McMahon, Wyla O’Zavis, and Lisa O’Zavis. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Fran was predeceased by her sister, Kathleen (Kathy) Kusky and her nephew, Dan Mayo. Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Fran will be celebrated on Saturday March 16th at 10:00 am at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 2416 7th Ave., Watervliet, NY 12189. Immediately following the mass we invite you to come to the #1500 Watervliet-Colonie Elks Lodge, at 501 4th Ave, Watervliet, NY 12189 prior to the wake service which will be held at 1pm.
