Latham – Joseph “Joe” L. Sciotti, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday April 8, 2025 with his loving wife Shirley by his side. Born in Albany on December 6, 1945, he is the son of the late Leonard Sciotti and Marion Leffler. At a young age, Joe proudly served in The United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked at Al Tech Specialty Steel in Watervliet for over 20 years. In his time there, he served as President of the United Steel Worker of America Local #2478 for over a decade. Years after, Joe worked as a clerk at Off Track Betting before finally retiring. Joe had a deep love for horse racing. He was an avid sports fan and could always be seen wearing either a NY Giants or NY Yankees hat wherever he went. Joe enjoyed coaching his daughters in softball and basketball throughout the years. Joe was one of the founding members of the Latham Lassies girls softball league. In addition to softball, Joe coached basketball and baseball for several teams and high schools in the area. Joe loved spending time with his family, grand-dogs, going to breakfast and watching his favorite sports teams on tv. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Torre Sciotti; his daughters, Gerri Molyn, Staci Sciotti and Niki (Don) Riston; his sisters, Luanne (Sheila) Sciotti and Lori (Frank) Conley; his grandchildren, Jacob, Izabella, Bonnie, Ellie, Jaxson and Daniel; he was the brother-in-law to, Carmen (Dorothy) Torre and Joan (the late Joe) Torre. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his siblings, Dominick Sciotti, Christine (Mike) Caruso and Leonard (Jane) Sciotti. Memorial contributions can be made in Joe’s name to The Special Olympics at specialolympics-ny.org A Celebration of Life will be held for Joe on Monday, April 21st at Brown’s Brewing Company’s Malt Room, 425 River St. in Troy from 4:00 – 8:00 pm.
